 | Interview by Robin Pailler When was the last time women’s skate and street wear truly evolved? Not just something that looks great, but something genuinely functional you can slam in. Since graduating from Kingston University with a BA Hons in Fashion Design & Apparel, Jessica Rancaño Piper has been on a mission to prove just that. To reinvent people’s preconceptions of skate and street wear for women. Based in her hometown Southampton, Jessica, along with a close knit of lifelong friends known as the SouthCoast Collective, has put every ounce of effort into building a brand that speaks truly to her, as a female skateboarder in a man’s world. The result, quite simply, Man Up Girl. It was always skateboarding that spoke to us and I think it’s the whole ethos I’ve had. For people who don’t know, how would you define Man Up Girl? In its rawest form it’s skate and street wear for women, that hopefully, gets stolen by the men as opposed to the other way round.
